Woke up this morning extremely excited to attend the second day of the ASLA convention.
The first session that I attended was all about plant design, and stepped away from some of the
more technical aspects of Landscape Architecture while still being just as important to what
Landscape Architects do, and are called to do. The session was by three of the young leaders of the
profession and LA's that I am so excited to follow.
These gentlement deal with the Aestetics of Sustainability, and show that there is a way for the
garden to be beautiful while being sustainable. I have been fortunate in the past several months to
have clients that are also open to this type of design, and while I haven't taken it to these Landscape Architect's
level, I am excited to see how these first trial gardens for me might transition into what is reffered to as
"Aestetics of Sustainability"
The second session that I attended was very interesting, and it dealt with creating meadows. This is
really something new for me, but very intriging. The session dealt with creating the proper type of "greenspace",
and how as Americans, we are so obsessed with our lawns. My favorite quote from the speaker was
"Turf lawns are the fast food of the American garden" It was a unique session in how to potentially change the
maintenance of your lawn, and garden.
After the short sessions, I visited the Expo to learn about new produces to make the way we in North
Alabama live and react to our environment better.
Afterwards, I journed to The National Mall, and the National Botanical Garden on The National Mall keeping
with the theme of visiting new places not seen before. I will leave you with a couple of pictures from the Garden.

Stay tuned for more tomorrow!
