This was the final day of the conference for me, but not our trip to D.C. The first class that i attended
on this monday was about Sustainability in the Modern Residential Garden. This was led by three
of the top female landscape archtitects in the nation, and they did not fail to deliver. It was interesting
to listen to the challenges that as Landscape Architects we all face, in dealing with budgets, timing, and
how to address traditional gardens with the new more modern style that is prevalent today.
The second session was a planning session dealing with the master planning of college campus. There
were three examples used. The first was Duke University, and how they have been implementing urban
infill stratagies to their campus, and the power of their core chapel area. The second was John Hopkins University.
Their campus came together with the master plan really moving during the construction of the project.
The most fascinating discussion was the transformation of the University of Cincinatti. The challenges that faced
this campus are similar to what our own University of Alabama in Huntsville has to face with a major thoroughfare
throught the middle of the campus. The transformation of this campus is so drastic, that it really is hard to describe,
and something that I would like to explore in an other blog.
After these classes, it is time to head to the national mall, and a couple of museums that I have not visited. The first was
the National Art Gallery. Here are a couple of paintings:

Matisse Van Gogh
The next stop was the Native American Museum. This is a sobering experience to the visitor to really get an
in depth look the Native Americans, and how history has treated them, and also the contributions that
they had made to our society. Here are a couple of picturesof the building and interpretive path:

The final stop for the day was the National Sculpture Garden, and I will leave you with some pictures to enjoy:
