Tuttle Thompson Park- Arab, Alabama

Surrounded by a sea of concrete, and asphalt the corner of Alabama highway 69, and Main Street in Arab Alabama was the former home to a convienience store that had been closed, and removed for some years.  Desiring to help bolster their downtown, the leaders of the City of Arab, and several concerned citizen's put together a vision for turning the corner into a greenspace, and historic park honoring the founder of Arab, Stephen Tuttle Thompson.  A statue of the thompson was incorporated into the center of the park overseeing his vision of the town.  Because of the concrete, and the asphalt, numerous elms trees were planted to create shade for the visitors to the park  and to focus views into the center of the park.  Coupled with shrubs, and groundcovers, the park is an inviting oasis for patrons to learn about the town's founder, or just enjoy a moment in the landscape during their hectic day.  Site amenities such as benches, and lighting were incorporated into the design to enable the park to be used at  various times of day.
